A hacker has been seriously derailing my movie plans. I go to the mailbox and there it is, the little red rectangular package with a DVD enclosed. I open it thinking it’s the latest cool action adventure to find “Forks Over Knives.” What the fuck!? My girlfriend has hacked into my Netflix account, changing the movies without telling me. Initially this was very irritating! However, I must say “thank you” to her for meddling.
For this post, I’m going to depart from the subject of photography and embark on the subject of nutrition and it’s relation to major diseases plaguing Humans. I would be remiss otherwise.
“Forks Over Knives” makes the argument that nutrition has a direct influence on major diseases. According to the various Doctors in the movie (both PhD’s & MD’s), switching to a primarily whole food, plant-based diet can:
- Prevent cancer from occurring
- Stop and reverse plaque build up in arteries, which is the primary cause of heart attacks and stroke
- Prevent and reverse diabetes and diabetes associated diseases
The movie breaks all this down and explains the above bulleted points in more detail. There are copious documents backing up their claims.
“Forks Over Knives” is not necessarily beating the drum to become Vegan or Vegetarian. It’s making the case that people who consume large amounts of animal-based foods (dairy, eggs & meat) should cut back. They should instead start consuming more of a whole food, plant-based diet. Otherwise, they run the risk of becoming severely ill.
What they mean by a whole food, plant-based diet are fresh, raw fruits and vegetables, legumes, whole grains and others.
“Forks Over Knives” is an important movie to watch to understand the relationship nutrition has on major illnesses.
